How to Change Email When You Have Access to the Old One?
Self-service steps are as follows:
- Log in to the OKX app and tap the profile icon in the upper left corner
- Go to "Security Center"
- Find the "Email Verification" option and tap "Modify"
- The system sends a verification code to your old email — check and enter it
- The system sends a verification code to your bound phone number — enter it
- If Google Authenticator is enabled, enter the Google verification code
- Enter the new email address
- The system sends a verification code to the new email — check and enter it
- Binding successful
Notes:
- The new email cannot already be bound to another OKX account
- Gmail or Outlook are recommended for more stable delivery
- Temporary or obscure email services are not recommended
How to Change Email When the Old One Is Unavailable?
If your old email has been deactivated or you can't log into it:
Method 1: Apply Through Security Center
- In the Security Center, tap "Modify" for email
- At the old email verification step, select "Cannot receive verification code"
- The system guides you through an identity verification process
- Submit ID document photos and a selfie holding your ID
- Fill in account-related information (registration date, recent transactions, etc.)
- Submit and wait for review (1-3 business days)
Method 2: Contact Live Customer Support
- In the app, go to "Help Center" > "Live Chat"
- Explain the situation: need to change email, old email unavailable
- Customer support will send an identity verification form
- Fill out and submit the required proof materials
- After approval, support will assist with the email change
Method 3: Submit a Ticket
- Submit a ticket through the OKX official website
- Select category "Account Security" > "Change Email"
- Describe the situation in detail and attach ID document photos
- Wait for processing, usually 3-5 business days

What Happens After Changing Your Email?
- Withdrawal restriction: Withdrawals unavailable for 24 hours
- Login method change: You'll use the new email to log in going forward
- Notification change: System notifications will be sent to the new email
- Security alert: The old email will receive a notification that the email has been changed
Trading, deposits, and other functions are not affected.
Security Reminders
Please note the following when changing your bound email:
- Ensure the new email is secure: Enable two-step verification on the new email (like Gmail's 2FA) to prevent your exchange account from being compromised if the email is hacked
- Don't use shared email accounts: The bound email must be for your exclusive personal use
- Keep old email information: Even after switching, transaction notifications in your old email may still be valuable for reference
- Don't share verification codes: All verification codes during the process are for your use only
- Test reception after switching: After completing the change, trigger a test email from OKX to confirm the new email receives messages properly
- Record the new email: Write down the new bound email address in a secure location
Will the Old Email Still Receive OKX Emails After the Change?
After a successful change, all OKX emails (security notifications, transaction confirmations, etc.) will be sent to the new email. The old email will only receive one "email has been changed" notification and won't receive any further OKX emails.
Can I Change Email and Phone Number at the Same Time?
This is not recommended. OKX's security policy requires keeping at least one verified contact method. It's best to change one first, wait until the 24-hour restriction period ends, then change the other.
Is There a Fee to Change Email?
No. Changing your bound email is a free security operation — OKX doesn't charge any fees. The only "cost" is the 24-hour withdrawal restriction.
I Registered with a Phone Number — Can I Add an Email Later?
Yes. Even if you only used a phone number during registration, you can add an email binding in the Security Center afterward. Adding an email increases your security level, so it's recommended to bind both phone number and email.
